Highlands Hammock State Park is one of the first of Florida’s state parks. This is an early brochure, likely produced just prior to World War II. It lists Suwannee River, which doesn’t officially become a state park until 1951, but the Suwannee property was open before that time.
The park is listed as part of the Florida Forest and Park Service, which was the precursor to Florida State Parks. Currently, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection manages all state parks.
